Yanni Selects Independent Label Image for CD, DVD and Digital Rights Exploitation to First Live Concert in Eight Years
CHATSWORTH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 9, 2006--Image Entertainment, Inc. (Nasdaq: DISK - News), a leading independent licensee, producer and distributor of home entertainment programming in North America, today announced it has signed an exclusive distribution agreement with international music powerhouse Yanni and secured the worldwide DVD and digital rights to the renowned performer's first live concert in eight years. Image has also secured North American CD rights to the concert.
"Yanni Live! The Concert Event" was filmed in front of more than 10,000 people at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas as part of his Yanni Live 2005 World Tour. The show was a 16-camera high definition production, including a special Sky Cam that captured unprecedented aerial shots. More than 70 microphones captured the audio of the event in multi channel surround sound. The show was directed by Jerry McReynolds and eleven-time Emmy Award winner George Veras, with the set designed by five-time Emmy Award winner Jeremy Railton.
"In this growing digital age I am excited about my new relationship with Image Entertainment," said Yanni. "Through Image, I will continue to bring my music to people all over the world and reach a new generation of digital music lovers. This live concert event is very special to me and I look forward to the release of the CD and DVD."
The audio CD is slated for release on August 15, and the DVD is expected to be released September 19. The DVD will feature the live concert performance, including amazing behind-the-scenes footage from the concert and a rare up-close-and-personal look at the legendary entertainer. The digital audio version of the program will be available simultaneously with the audio CD on August 15 with the digital video version being day and date with the DVD release on September 19.
"The fact that an artist of Yanni's stature chose to sign with an independent like Image is not only a testament to our leading position in the marketplace but confirmation that our video, audio and digital initiatives provide content owners an all-encompassing selling platform," stated Martin W. Greenwald, president and CEO of Image Entertainment.
"Yanni is one of the most popular and bestselling musicians in the world," said Barry Gordon, senior vice president of worldwide programming of Image Entertainment. "He joins Image's large and diverse library of superstar performers and we couldn't be more pleased with this new relationship."
Yanni has performed live before more than two million people in more than 20 countries around the world.
